A tour through the most famous beaches in Tenerife, a trip in which you will have the opportunity to visit its most beautiful beaches.
Tenerife is a very lucky island regarding the weather and natural beauties, including a National Park, Rural Parks, a Biosphere Reserve, World Heritages and a dozen blue flags in its beaches. We know what going to a beach on the weekend with friends entails, a great variety of tastes and opinions. Some want to do windsurf, kite surf, surf, snorkel, apnea or even scuba diving. Others prefer to take a good sunbath or even go to a beach bar and have a nice mojito. The beaches in Tenerife are so different from each other that there is one for every taste. We can find them with black sand, with white sand, crowded, quiet, virgin, suitable for nudism, for sportspeople, for couples, for families, for friends, and anything else you can think of. Why don’t we grab our towel and our swimsuit and we start discovering the most famous beaches in Tenerife?
First, for the people that prefer black sand beaches over those with white sand, which are very common in other places of Spain or of Europe there is a great offer. To enjoy this type of beaches we have to start with the beach of Los Guíos, located nearby the Los Gigantes cliffs, in Santiago del Teide, where besides taking a swim or enjoying the sun, you can practice kayaking. Our next stop is in the north of Tenerife, near the capital of the island, where we find the wonderful Benijos beach, famous for its espectacular sunsets and the savagery of its waters. It is usually visited by nudism lovers because it is one of the few beaches in Tenerife where nudism is allowed.
For the lovers of water sports like surf or kite surf, nothing better than going to the small town of El Medano. Famous for its surfer and hippy environment, for its restaurants, and for having several surf and kite surf schools and stores. Due to the strong winds in this area, the World Championship of Windsurf and Kite surf is celebrated here. Besides, it is very close to the Reina Sofia’s airport.
In the shade of El Medano, and Montaña Roja, we find the beach of La Tejita, famous for its nudist visitors and because it has an area where pets are allowed. It is a wild beach and also a protected natural area. Situated in one of the most windy areas of the island it is ideal for practicing sports like windsurf and kite surf.
For the families, Tenerife has some nice and quiet beaches, where the waves are barely noticed, and they have all types of services like dressing rooms, showers, loungers, umbrellas, and playing zones for the young ones of the house. Between the most familiar beaches we highlight the beach of Las Teresitas, located only a few kilometers away from Santa Cruz. It is a golden sand beach full of palm trees, ideal for strolling and for playing games with your family. It has several beach bars and the waves are practically non existent.
If we go towards the south of the island we can enjoy the beach of Las Vistas, very close to the town of Los Cristianos. It is a golden sand beach with calmed waters, ideal for families with small children. It has a nice promenade filled up with restaurants, ice-cream shops and different kinds of stores. Nearby we find the beach of El Duque, located very close to the newest and most luxurious hotels and stores of the island, in the area of Adeje. It has all the services, including dressing rooms with showers and the blue flag.
Our last must visit is to the beach of La Arena, one of the many beaches the canarian families choose for its quality, quietness and the transparency of its waters, being ideal for practicing scuba diving. It is located in Puerto Santiago, it has all the services and it has the blue flag.
Well my friend, not all the beaches that you should visit are mentioned, as the island has many beaches, but our selection represents the most famous and they are adapted to all types of needs.
We just remind you that before spending a whole day lying in the sand and enjoying the sun, you must prepare your skin for it, so you can enjoy a long-lasting tan. As a recommendation, you should use a high factor sunscreen, as the Canary Islands tend to have high levels of UV radiation and you can get sunburnt without even noticing it. Enjoy!
